Dot Density

The density of heater elements. It is shown either by [dot/mm] which means the number of heater elements in 1mm, or by [dot/inch = dpi] which means the number of heater elements in 1inch.

Dot Pitch

Is the inverse number of dot density. Dot pitch is the distance between adjacent heater elements. For example, dot pitch of a 8dot/mm printhead is 0.125mm by 1/8mm.

Heater Size

Each heater size is shown by W x L: Width in main-scanning direction x Length in sub-scanning direction.

Applied Energy

Electric current per any one dot (I) can be calculated using the above formula, when R is the resistance value of the heater element and Ric is the driver IC's internal resistance.

Timing Diagram

A sequence of On/Off DATA is transferred by CLOCK (triggered by the signal edge upon start), and then is stored in the shift-register. The transfer speed is determined by the CLOCK frequency, which is 16MHz maximum depending on the driver IC.

Thermistor

The temperature of a printhead rises as it continues to print, and the temperature has negative effects on the driver IC. A thermistor to monitor the ambient temperature and the printhead temperature, is mounted on the printhead.

Gprinter GP-3120 Printhead

203 DPI

Low-DPI printheads usually have a resolution of around 200 DPI , with the most common being 203 DPI . These printheads are suitable for simple text labels or larger barcodes that do not require high clarity requirements, such as warehouse shelf labels and logistics package labels.

Printronix T4M Printhead

300 DPI

The resolution of medium-DPI printheads is generally 300 DPI. These printheads have good performance in both image and text quality and can meet most daily label printing needs such as clothing, food, daily necessities, logistics, electronic devices, while maintaining a relatively low cost and good cost-effectiveness. They are considered the mainstream label printheads in the market.

Printronix T5304 Printhead

600 DPI

High-DPI printheads usually refer to devices with a resolution of 600 DPI or even higher. These printheads can achieve higher quality images and details and are suitable for labels of precision equipment and high-end products, such as jewelry, medical equipment, research laboratory supplies.

 

Other Printhead Handling Precautions

Substrate temperature should not exceed the maximum limit when continuously printing at a high duty to avoid breakdown of heater elements.

 

Paper residue on the heater line should be removed with ethanol or IPA to avoid corrosion.

 

Do not touch the heater line surface with bare hands to avoid corrosion.

 

Please use thermal paper and ink-ribbons that are free from Na+, K+, and CI- ions and of which the reliability is fully evaluated to avoid corrosion.

 

The heater surface should be free from any condensation to avoid corrosion. In case condensation is found, please turn off the VH until condensation evaporates.
